American Foundation for the Blind Scholarships

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) Scholarships are for students who are legally blind and are seeking higher education. Each scholarship has a specific criteria. Students can apply to several as long as they fulfill the requirements.

DELTA GAMMA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Delta Gamma Memorial Scholarship is for students in the field of rehabilitation or education who are blind or visually impaired.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen, provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts and proof of college acceptance. Must complete the application including essay on a specified topic and provide a letter stating that the student is legally blind

Amount: $1,000

Number of Recipients: Annually to one student

Degree Type: Undergraduate or Graduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired

Category of Study: Rehabilitation or Education

States: All States

RUDOLPH DILLMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Rudolph Dillman Memorial Scholarships are for students in the field of rehabilitation or education who are blind or visually impaired.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen, provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts and proof of college acceptance. Must complete the application including essay on a specified topic and provide a letter stating that the student is legally blind

Amount: $2,500

Number of Recipients: Annually to 4 students

Degree Type: Undergraduate or Graduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired

Category of Study: Rehabilitation or Education

PAUL AND ELLEN RUCKES SCHOLARSHIP

Paul and Ellen Ruckes Scholarships are for students who are blind or visually impaired and is studying engineering, computer, physical, or life sciences.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen, provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts and proof of college acceptance. Must complete the application including essay on a specified topic and provide a letter stating that the student is legally blind

Amount: $1,000

Number of Recipients: Annually to one student

Degree Type: Undergraduate and Graduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired

Category of Study: Engineering, Computer Science, Physical science, or Life science

States: All States

R. L. GILLETTE SCHOLARSHIP

R. L. Gillette Scholarships are for female students who are blind or visually impaired and is studying literature or music.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen, provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts and proof of college acceptance. Must complete the application including essay on a specified topic and provide a letter stating that the student is legally blind

A performance tape/CD not to exceed 30 minutes, or a creative writing sample.

Amount: $1,000

Number of Recipients: Annually to two student

Degree Type: Undergraduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired

Category of Study: Literature or Music

GLADYS. C. ANDERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Gladys. C. Anderson Memorial Scholarship is for a female student who is blind or visually impaired and is studying classical or religious music.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen, provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts and proof of college acceptance. Must complete the application including essay on a specified topic and provide a letter stating that the student is legally blind

Amount: $1,000

Number of Recipients: Annually to one student

Degree Type: Undergraduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired

Category of Study: Classical or Religious Music

States: All States

KAREN D. CARSEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Karen D. Carsel Memorial Scholarship is for students who are blind or visually impaired and have economic need.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must have economic need

Must be a U.S. citizen, provide two letters of recommendation, transcripts and proof of college acceptance. Must complete the application including essay on a specified topic and provide a letter stating that the student is legally blind

Amount: $500

Number of Recipients: Annually to one student

Degree Type: Undergraduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired and Low Income

Category of Study: All

States: All States

FERDINAND TORRES SCHOLARSHIP

Ferdinand Torres Scholarship is for blind students who are new immigrants to the United States, and to those residing in the New York City metropolitan area.

Award Type: Scholarship

Qualifications:

Must provide proof of residence in the United States, but need not be a citizen of the United States. Have economic need and must include a description of country of origin and reason for coming to the U.S.

Amount: $2,500

Number of Recipients: Annually to one student

Degree Type: Undergraduate or Graduate

Student Type: Blind or visually impaired and a new Immigrant

Category of Study: All

States: New York
