The first place to look for scholarships is the financial aid office of the college you are attending or planning on attending. They have a list of specific scholarships for music students.

Music Foundations

Music foundations are great place to look for scholarship because their mission is to dedicated to encouraging the creation, performance, and study of music. They offer awards, scholarships, interships, grants, and commissions.

BMI Foundation, Inc

The BMI Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation founded to encouraging the creation, performance and study of music. The offer a varied programs:


THE ASCAP FOUNDATION'S

The ASCAP Foundation is dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past and sustaining the creative incentive for today's creators through a variety of educational, professional, and humanitarian programs. These programs include:

  • CHARLOTTE V. BERGEN SCHOLARSHIP - The scholarship is to be used for music study at an accredited college or music conservatory. Must be age 18 or under.
  • HENRY MANCINI MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS - These scholarships provide support for music composition students at universities across the country.

Competition

Another area you can recieve scholarships through are competitions. Here are some competitions you may want to investigate and enter:

Stamford Symphony Instrumental Scholarship Competition

The Stamford Symphony Orchestra provides scholarships to exceptionally talented high-school seniors who wished to pursue advanced study in music. Scholarship amounts are $20,000, $4,000, and $500. Daniel Piano Competition for Young Artists

This competition recognizes and rewards outstanding high school piano students. The competition will be held on the Furman university campus and will feature presentations and master classes by Anne Koscielny and Julian Martin. Winners receive prizes of $5,000 for first place; $2,500 for second place; and $1,000 for third place. Submission deadline for audition materials is December 1

The Williams Chorale Bacardi Fallon Scholarship Competition

The Williams Chorale offers scholarship funds and a chance to perform with this well-respected performing arts ensemble to high school juniors and seniors who are pursuing vocal or instrumental studies. General Scholarships

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Scholarship

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation provides funds to select seniors from Cleveland and New York City public high schools who intend to study music or the business of music at the college level. Scholarships are awarded based on personal essays. The scholarships total $50,000 with the monies split evenly between Cleveland and New York. Strings Magazine Scholarship Award

The Strings Magazine Scholarship Award is available to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program who are majoring in Music Education or Music Performance of the bowed string instruments.
