The Alabama Commission on Higher Education is the state agency responsible for the overall statewide planning and coordination of higher education in Alabama, the administration of various student aid programs, and the performance of designated regulatory functions.

State Grants

AlaskAdvantage Grant Program is administered by the Alaska Commission on Postseconday Eduction and is the most accessible to students. This need-based program is state-funded and intended to provide additional assistance so that all Alaskans may earn a college degree. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in one of the state colleges or universities and be an Alaska resident. Apply by filling out the FAFSA. Award amounts are usually between $500 and $2500.

Alabama College Loan Program

The Alabama College Loan Program provides low-cost Federal Stafford, Parent PLUS, Graduate PLUS and Consolidation Loans to help Alabama college students and their parents pay educational expenses.

This program offers interest-forgiveness for Alabama's teachers, nurses and National Guard members.

529 Plans

The state of Alabama offers two flexible investing options to assist families in planning for the future education of a child or loved one.

1) Alabama Education 529 Fund

The Alabama Higher Education 529 Fund allows you to participate in an investing program, in which you select from a number of professionally crafted investment strategies. The beneficiary of the account may be a child, adult or even yourself. Withdrawals from the account can be used to pay for tuition, fees, books, room and board at any accredited college, trade or graduate school.

2) Prepaid Affordable College Tuition Program - (PACT)

PACT programs offers a four-year contract or a one-year contract that can be purchased to prepay college tuition and qualified fee payments at any Alabama public college or university. PACT may also be used at private or out-of-state institutions. Flexible plans are available to pay for the contract that is priced according to the age of the child.
